Jobs and Deferred Work

Some tasks take longer than a quick response. When you ask your agent to do something that will take a while — a comprehensive research task, a document generation workflow, or something that needs human review — the agent will:

  1. Acknowledge your request
  2. Start the work in the background
  3. Let you know when results are ready (or when useful partial results are available)

You can continue chatting with your agent while the work is in progress. The results will be delivered in the same conversation when they are ready.

If you change your mind, you can ask your agent to cancel a pending task.

Task Timeouts

Tasks have deadline limits. If a task exceeds its deadline, you will be notified. You can ask your agent to retry or break the work into smaller pieces.

Checking Progress

Ask your agent directly: "How is that research task going?" or "What's the status of the report you're writing?" Your agent will give you an update on in-progress work.
